Word Study: REPENT

"Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;" Acts 3:19 KJV

Repent- Metanoeo- To change one's mind, i.e. to repent. To change one's mind for better, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one's past sins.

The Biblical teaching of repentance in regards to Salvation is simple. To repent is to change your mind. Period. It is NOT a work we do to be saved. The Bible is clear that Salvation is God's free GIFT to us (Eph. 2). We are saved when we ASK for this free Gift (Rom. 10:13). We turn FROM our sins & TO God. We RECEIVE Salvation; we DO NOT WORK for It. To believe that ANY work is necessary to be saved is unbiblical & heretical. Let us thank God for His Gift of eternal Salvation.
